Assistant Agent mode
Surfaces: Web and Extension Module: AI
Agent mode lets the Assistant take actions in your Trove library — create tasks, save bookmarks, and update notes — not just answer questions.
What Agent mode is
By default, Assistant behaves like a chat over your saved content: summarize, explain, compare, and search your library.
Agent mode switches on the built-in Trove agent: the model proposes concrete actions (create task, save link, append note, etc.). Important writes show an Approve or Dismiss card before anything is saved.
Agent mode uses Trove’s built-in tools. It is not the same as MCP servers you configure under Settings → Profile → AI features → MCP servers. It also does not automate browser tabs or session management.
When to turn it on
| Situation | Recommendation | |-----------|----------------| | You want Q&A, summaries, analysis | Leave Agent mode off | | You’re asking it to do something (“create a task…”, “save this link…”) | Leave off — it usually detects this automatically, or tap Do this for me? | | You want every message to go through the action agent | Turn Agent mode on |
With Agent mode off, actionable phrasing still triggers the agent for that message (for example “Create a task to follow up on this”). You may see a Do this for me? chip above the composer when your text looks like a command.
With Agent mode on, every message uses the agent path, even plain questions.
What it can do (v1)
| Action | Example | Confirmation | |--------|---------|----------------| | Create tasks | “Add a task: Review PR by Friday” | Approve required | | Save bookmark / link | “Save https://example.com to my trove” | Approve required | | Create a note | “Create a note with this summary” | Approve required | | Append to a note | “Append this paragraph to my meeting note” | Often runs automatically (low risk) |
Tasks are created in a task workspace (the same project list you use on the Tasks page). Bookmarks use URL and title from your message or the current page context (extension page-tools / side panel).
How to use it
- Open Assistant (web sidebar, extension popup, or side panel).
- Optional: check Agent mode below the message box.
- Type what you want — e.g. “Create a task to email the vendor” or “Save this page to Trove.”
- Read the assistant reply and any pending action card.
- Tap Approve to run the action, or Dismiss to cancel.
On the extension, page context (current tab) is included when you chat from page tools or the side panel, which helps “save this page” style requests.
Safety model
- Proposal-based: the model suggests actions; Trove executes only after rules below.
- Auto-run: low-risk reads and note appends may run without a card.
- Confirm: creating tasks, new bookmarks, and new notes require your approval.
- Pending actions expire after about 15 minutes if not approved.
